Cat sterilisations

We are very glad with the news that the municipality is providing a serious budget for neutering stray cats.

And on top of that we received a very generous donation from Mrs. Beels from the Netherlands especially for castrations of cats. We are very grateful for her help over and over again.

Thassos really has a large number of cats and the only way to control the population is castration.

And NOT as some people seem to think by poisoning them! 

This (and all animal abuse) is forbidden by law with large fines or even prison. 

Recently there were cases of poisoning in Theologos and Potos and it was good that these were reported to the police. And don’t think the police won’t do anything with this. This is not true. The problem is that nobody reports it to the police. The more people report to the police the clearer the situation will be and this way it is more likely that the perpetrator can be caught.

So please in case of a poisoning contact the police and if possible take pictures of the situation and (if there is) of the poison.

The best way to work on this problem is TOGETHER.

Yacco for adoption

Yacco is one of the seven Y-puppies born in December 2019. He was lucky he didn’t have to travel because Tanja decided he could stay with her.

But after a while it turned out that he couldn’t get along with one of her dogs. After months of trying all sorts of things we sadly had to decide that they had to be separated for the best of both dogs and before one would get injured seriously.

So with pain in her heart Tanja brought Yacco to the enclosure…

Now we urgently search for the right family for Yacco. This must be a family with no other animals or small children. A family with experience with dogs who have the time and patience to guide him into a life where he feels safe and secure.

Yacco is full of energy, loves to play (also on his own with a toy) and likes long walks.

The only thing he doesn’t like is driving in a car.

Surgery Diana

Last week Diana, the setter with the tumor, was operated. It wasn't easy and she lost a lot of blood, but now she is fine.

She is getting to know a total different life: freedom to walk around in the garden and a warm bed at night.

Being an older lady (probably about 13 years) we don't like to let her travel a long way for adoption. Instead we hope there is someone on Thassos who is willing to give her the loving home she so much deserves.

Diana is an easy going dog, clean in the house, and no trouble at all with other dogs or cats.

Help us through the winter

In a few weeks time we took in 4 dogs (Albert, Bevy, Carlos and Diana).

Both our enclosures are full and our wallet is empty.

After a year with not one single bazaar, hardly tourists to fill our donation boxes (normally good for € 3.500 income) and no more program from the municipality, we are struggling to pay all our bills.

We were lucky that Mrs. Helena Beels from Holland gave us some generous donations, but most of that was meant for necessary repairs.

And now these 4 need vaccinations, worm/flea treatment, castrations, microchips and surgery.

Not to mention that we need straw and food for the winter…

We are all suffering in this Covid-time, but if you can still miss a few euros we would be very grateful.
